Tuesday, October 13 / 7:00 p.m. / Proshansky Auditorium Global Fashion, Women, and the Creative Industries: Reem Acra in Conversation with Valerie SteeleWorld-renowned designer Reem Acra speaks with Valerie Steele of the Fashion Institute of Technology in a featured event of the conference Global Fashion Capitals. Originally from Beirut, Acra has dressed global style icons including Angelina Jolie, Beyoncé Knowles, and Jane Fonda. Her collections are carried by top retailers, such as Bergdorf Goodman and Saks Fifth Avenue. Steele is the director of the Museum at FIT and editor of Fashion Theory: The Journal of Dress, Body & Culture. Moderated by Maria Ann Conelli, dean of the arts school at Brooklyn College. Presented with the Fashion Studies Program.

Wednesday, October 7 / 7:00 p.m. / Proshansky Auditorium Rediscovering Harper Lee: Jonathan Burnham in Conversation with Joan Acocella and Tuzyline AllanJonathan Burnham, senior vice president and publisher of HarperCollins, gives a behind-the-scenes look at the discovery and publication of Harper Lee’s novel Go Set a Watchman. Written in the 1950s, before the classic To Kill a Mockingbird, it is set 20 years later and features many of the same characters. Joan Acocella, writer and New Yorker book critic, and Tuzyline Allan, professor of English at Baruch College, join Burnham to discuss this historic literary event and Lee's continuing importance in American culture and literature. Presented with the Center for the Humanities.
