Thurs, Feb. 27 Deadline - http://irtsfoundation.org/

Subject: TIME SENSITVE:  EXPENSE-PAID IRTS SUMMER FELLOWSHIP and CAREER WORKSHOP
Dear Colleagues:

We have TWO extraordinary opportunities for our students with the IRTS (International Radio and Television Society Foundation).  THIS TIME SENSTIVE, SO I NEED YOU TO PLEASE  SPREAD THE WORD AMONG STUDENTS TODAY!!!!DEADLINE TO APPLY FOR BOTH IS THURSDAY, FEB 27.

All Expense Paid Summer Fellowship in NYC
One of CCNY's alums, Betsy Frank, is paying for a CCNY student fellowship to the IRTS summer intern program.
See detailed info below and attached application.  Website info at  http://irtsfoundation.org/  Located in NYC, this is an all expense paid, housing included, opportunity for one student to get a crash exposure to working in  the media industry.   This is open to  academically competitive CCNY students who have a foundation in one of the specialty areas in media. (see website)

This is highly competitive. IRTS is looking for motivated, professional and high achieving students who are interested in media careers (especially in Ad PR,  but also in digital platforms, business, math/analytics, marketing, computer science, journalism, and more).   This is not an internship for those students who are most interested in the creative aspect of the ad business, but is more appropriate for those who are more strategically /business focused.

To help identify the most competitive students, I am only recommending that students with at least a 3.0 GPA apply.  Competitive students should also have a track record in working with campus media, interning or working in media/business in some way, even if it's this semester.

There are TWO opportunities that are available for students. DEADLINE TO APPLY FOR BOTH IS THURSDAY, FEB 27.
Students who complete the March 6 event for can use the SAME form if they want to apply to the summer fellows program.

Multicultural Career Workshop: March 6 and 7
On March 6 and 7:  IRTS is hosting a Multicultural Career Workshop for students interested in breaking into the industry.   (all areas). Please direct students to the website above for more information and schedule.  There is also an attached application for this event.
Please note that this workshop is only open to students who are multicultural.

Please share immediately.
Please have  all students who are applying ALSO email me so I know who is applying for this.

This is a new relationship that can offer tremendous opportunities for our students and programs.

Thanks so much for getting the word out NOW and encouraging talented and motivated students to apply.

Feel free to follow up.

best,
Lynn

EXPENSE-PAID IRTS SUMMER FELLOWSHIP SPONSORED BY CCNY ALUM BETSY FRANK

A CCNY student will be awarded one of the IRTS Foundation’s prestigious, expense-paid Summer Fellowships in New York City, thanks to a sponsorship provided by alum Betsy Frank, a visionary leader in the communications industry and Director on the IRTS Board. Current Junior, Senior, and Graduate students from all majors are encouraged to apply.

Acknowledged as one of the nation’s best internship opportunities in the media and communications industry, the 2014 IRTS Summer Fellowship Program will take place from June 1 – August 2.

The program includes:
  • Housing in the heart of Greenwich Village for the nine-week duration of the Fellowship
  • A Weekly Allowance of $320
  • A one-week orientation to the media industry, featuring access to top business leaders and companies.
  • An eight-week internship at a New York City media company
  • Transportation to and from New York City at the beginning and end of the program
  • IRTS sponsored seminars and career coaching sessions throughout the summer
The IRTS Summer Fellowship Program has had a key role in launching the careers of top professionals in the media business for more than 40 years. An application for the program is attached.

The IRTS Foundation is a nonprofit organization dedicated to building future media leaders. IRTS Board Director Betsy Frank, whose distinguished career includes having been the Chief Research & Insights Officer at Time Inc. and the Executive Vice President of Research and Planning at Viacom Inc., never considered a career in communications prior to graduation.  While specific experience in not necessary, applicants with strong extracurricular activities, volunteer experience, or employment history that suggests they will be one of the nation's most promising professionals of tomorrow are encouraged to apply.  Whether you are strong in math or writing, creative or business minded, the communications industry needs skills from all disciplines. We therefore welcome applications from all majors, in addition to those already on a media or advertising related track.

Those selected receive a comprehensive introduction to the media industry, as well as specific internship experience at a company, which will be assigned after the student is selected to ensure a good match.

The initial application, which is due on Thursday, February 27th, is attached.
