Advice from Ad/PR Major Joanna Ventour

Hi Guys!

My name is Joanna, and I’m a senior in the Ad/PR program. I’m sure there are several opportunities the MCA professors may be throwing your way… but allow me to add to that!

-   If you are a JUNIOR or SENIOR in the program, and you know that you are interested in an advertising–specific discipline, then you should be applying to #MAIP (Multicultural Advertising Intern Program) for the summer of 2016. The MAIP Program is essentially your pipeline into the industry – if accepted, you will gain industry connections, insights, and access to a wealth of information unavailable to others. The deadline to apply for #MAIP2016 is October 31st, 2015. For additional information or to begin your application, visit maip.aaaa.org. I’ve already hosted an info session with the AAF club, but there will be at least one more with a special focus on those who plan to apply.

-    If you are a WOMAN interested in ANY communications centered profession (which should be everyone in the program), New York Women in Communications, Inc (NYWiCi) is an organization dedicated to connecting women in the communications field for mentoring and professional development opportunities, AS WELL AS SCHOLARSHIPS to help offset the cost of education. Membership with the NYWiCi community has opened many doors for me. Visit nywici.org for more information.

-   If you are interested in PUBLIC RELATIONS, join the PRSSA on campus. The PRSA foundation has a wealth of scholarships available with a wide array of qualifications criteria… for details, please do not hesitate to contact me or visit http://prssa.prsa.org/scholarships_competitions/individual for more information. I was also featured on their Facebook page in an interview (still live if you’d like to watch).

- I know it seems like a lot of information, but thanks to the help and encouragement from the MCA faculty, I was able to win scholarships/ internships with ALL THREE of the above-mentioned organizations, for a total of $7,400 in scholarships, and TWO paid internships… and I can help you make this happen for yourself. You can also use me as a resource if you are interested in experiential marketing/ event marketing – I was the first MCA student to convince Appelbaum that this is a career path in communications!

For further questions, concerns, or details, you can reach me via email at jventour2@gmail.com

I hope to connect with you soon!
