PRSSA Membership NOW OPEN :: Sign Up & Pay Dues BEFORE Sept. 29

PRSSA (Public Relations Student Society of America) membership is
now open to our students through Monday, Sept. 29 ( this is the HARD DEADLINE for dues membership enrollment!)

Dues are $50 for a full year, which covers Fall 2014 and Spring 2015 semesters.

Your dues gets you access to the PRSSA database for scholarships, internships and professional information.  You also receive and electronic version of TACTICS, the monthly PRSA newsletter with up to date information on our industry.  Here's the link so you can learn more about the benefits of PRSSA  http://www.prssa.org/

In addition to the access to the national PRSSA, your dues give you membership  to the CCNY PRSSA chapter.  Our chapter brings local professionals to campus to give seminars to give you the competitive edge, and also benefits from the PRSA NY Chapter's professional programs and agency tours.  We also sponsor the annual  Building Bridges
event, where we bring back Ad PR alums to meet with current students in the program for networking opportunities.  Your participation helps make the chapter better!  So it's up to you to make this have value!

Reach out to Khaled Hassan (khaled@100cameras.org) if you have any questions; Prof. Lynn Appelbaum is faculty advisor (lappelbaum@ccny.cuny.edu).

Good Morning Professor Appelbaum,

I was recently contacted by Professor Rich of the Colin Powell School for help with promoting
the Semester In Washington Program. I was fortunate enough to be able to be selected among
the first group of students to participate in this program.

If you wouldn't mind, could you promote this program within the department as there might
be students such as myself that are interested in going a different route with their
AD/PR degree.

If anyone has any questions about what the program was like and my experience they
can contact me. If they would like more information on requirements, costs, etc please
have them contact the program director indicated on the flyer or Professor Rich at
andrewowenrich@gmail.com.

Enjoy your semester,
Tonyé Fohsta-Lynch

Subject: PR students wanted!

Have your students enter a campaign for the 2015 PRWeek Student of the Year!
Hi Lynn,

Wouldn’t you like to give your students the opportunity to showcase the skills and knowledge they’ve learned in your classroom to the biggest names in the industry? Then you should absolutely take note of what I’m about to share with you.
The call for entries for PRWeek Student of the Year 2015 is now open! It's one of the best avenues and opportunities for your students to kick-start their PR careers.
The PRWeek Student of the Year competition is a fantastic opportunity for students to make a name for themselves in the PR industry, as well as showcase their work to the best in the business. The winner will receive a $1,000 cash prize and a paid trip to New York City to attend the PRWeek Awards in March 2015. In addition, it will reflect amazingly well on your university program to have a PRWeek Student of the Year among its alums.
Download this year’s entry kit and take a look at our website. This could be the major step to the dream career your students have been looking for.
Your students should submit all completed entries to PRWeek.SOTY@prweek.com. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me.

To subscribe to PRWeek at our educator rate or to offer a student discount rate for your students, contact subscriptions@prweek.com.

Best wishes,
Amanda Hassler

FREE New York Times Digital Access

As discussed, it's CRITICAL Ad/PR majors keep up with current affairs.  Prof. Phil Ryan shared these useful tips to access your FREE New York Times subscription -- since a few MCA students were having trouble.

It's pretty straightforward, best of luck.  If you need further assistance, please contact Prof. Amrita Dhawan at the CCNY Libraries.
  • For access to New York Times Digital, full access to the NYTimes.com page and the NY Times smart phone app simply register with your CCNY Email address.
  • Be sure to create a NYTimes.com account using your City College email address. You can enter a new password, or use your existing email password if you prefer.
  • Select the emails you'd like to receive from the NY Times, then click "Create My Account."
  • On the Welcome page, click "Continue" and select "Check your email."
  • Look for a "Confirm your email" message from the NY Times in your City College email account (it should arrive within 15 minutes).
  •  Click on the link to confirmation email.

Important! Intro to PR Students MUST Declare Major

MCA Intro to PR Students:

If you have not formally declared Ad/PR as your major, you MUST FILL OUT A MAJOR FORM asap.  This is important.  Being accepted into the major is NOT the same as declaring their major.

You MUST see Prof. Appelbaum in #472 Shepard THIS WEEK.  She's available Mon and Weds from 1:30 to 4:30 pm.

Stay tuned for news about the date of our Ad/PR New Student Orientation, where you'll learn more about what's in store as your communications studies unfold!

MAIP Applications DUE Oct. 15, 2014 > Start Work on Your Entry NOW

Calling All MCA Ad/PR Majors:

Students are encouraged to apply for the 2015 MAIP Summer Fellows Program.  For the past two years, CCNY has had a great record of MAIP scholars: 10 in 2013 and 9 in 2014 (including two BIC students).

The 4A's Multi-Cultural Advertising Internship Program is a highly competitive 10-week summer internship program that selects from a talented pool of graduate and undergraduate applicants from across the country.  More than 85% of finalists will be placed in major advertising agencies and become part of the MAIP alumni network which has helped jumpstart the careers of more than 2,400 aspiring advertising professionals since 1973.  MAIP winners are announced in mid-March.

Once a student has been screened and accepted by the 4A's, semi-finalists are then interviewed by agency recruiters who then vote on finalists.  Let's keep the great CCNY record going!

DEADLINE; OCT 15, 2014.  Students are encouraged to seek advice / mentoring from professors, who are here to help.  Info is below; best of luck with your entry!

Best,

Prof. Appelbaum

Dear Education Leaders,

Celebrating its 41st anniversary, the 4A’s Multicultural Advertising Intern Program (MAIP) connects aspiring diverse entry‐level advertising professionals with prestigious advertising agencies nationwide.  MAIP offers multicultural students a unique paid, full‐time summer internship at 4A’s participating agencies nationwide combining real‐world work experience, networking opportunities within the industry, and a valuable professional credential to better position themselves in the marketplace.  Click here to hear from our industry supporters.

In addition to their internship, MAIP interns participate in a series of industry-sponsored workshops and seminars, which provide a deep dive into emerging advertising and media disciplines.  The workshops also grant interns the opportunity to learn more about agency culture by networking with agency professionals post‐workshop and agency tours

Selected students will have the opportunity to participate in The Face of Talent at the end of the summer and enter the MAIP Alumni Association, comprised of over 2,600 alumni connecting alumni nationwide dedicated to empowering multicultural advertising professionals with opportunities to achieve success throughout their careers.

If you would like to learn more about MAIP or disseminate the information to aspiring advertising professionals, please visit the 4A's website. The 2015 MAIP Application is available here and the deadline to apply is October 15, 2014

If you have any questions and/or concerns about the program or would like to discuss about ways your educational institution could partner with MAIP and the 4A's in the future, please reach out to the MAIP team at maip@aaaa.org.
